Manage and Deliver Knowledge as part of the Business

Knowledge is developed as part of capital development

Knowledge is developed by human capital with knowledge development capability working with those with knowledge or experience with the result or performance solution. Knowledge development is a requirement of all capital development projects to provide accessible knowledge to utilize new solutions and produce new results.

Knowledge development is managed as a capability within the enterprise to identify those who can create knowledge. They then develop knowledge solutions themselves or work with others with knowledge of particular performance solutions and results. Learning programs and other aids to human capability development can be developed as knowledge solutions and used, as needed; to produce the human capability developed result.

Knowledge may be developed to be accessible to learn about the enterprise, products and services, the industry, the competition, for general management, marketing, and human and public information results. A knowledge solution may be developed to help utilize another specific performance solution such as equipment, computer software, a process, a management strategy or policy, an intelligence report, etc, to be accessed by the specific performance solution identifier by those utilizing or following the solution.

A knowledge solution may be developed to produce specific results such as a sold product, a completed form, an interviewed candidate, etc and be deployed to the specific result identifier for integration with business data and delivery or access to produce the result.

R-pM makes knowledge development an integral part of all capital development projects. R-pM organizes capital development projects with a project business structure. The results and performance solutions, including knowledge, to be developed in the project are organized as project results.

The capital assigned to be utilized on the project, such as knowledge and other information development capabilities, are organized and managed as project performance solutions.

Specific results to be produced by the project are defined with the full range of specific performance solutions required to produce the result. This enables the project to produce the information needed by the business concerning new results and performance solutions.

Business data is developed to describe the results and performance solutions and provide for data retention. Human knowledge is developed to enable humans to develop the capability and directly to utilize performance solutions and to produce results. Facility records document the performance solutions and results and establish the capability to record business transactions. Management intelligence is produced to plan capital performance expectations and result goals, to provide business and competitive guidance, and to define performance indicators and result metrics to measure and report solution utilization and result production.

The best time to create knowledge is in the process of acquisition and development of new or improved performance solutions to produce new or improved results. Knowledge development must be instilled as a requirement in each capital development project to develop the knowledge on utilization of a solution to produce a result needed for management and result user learning, for access at the point of use, and for general human information and guidance results.

Knowledge is managed as human capital

Knowledge is managed as human capital by professionals responsible for human capital development and utilization. Knowledge is capital developed as solutions for human capability development to help human personnel solutions learn how to utilize solutions and produce results as a part of their capability. Knowledge is also developed as operational solutions for human personnel capital to access and use when actually utilizing solutions to produce results. Knowledge solutions related to the referenced solution provides guidance on using the solution. Knowledge solutions related to the result provide information on producing and delivering the result. Knowledge is managed as human capital to identify needs, create and develop knowledge, and provide knowledge solutions to produce results.

Human capital is organized into three classes for utilization by the business:

  • Human personnel capital: Each individual employed or contracted by the business or external to the business that is utilized to manage or produce a business result
  • Human capability capital: The specific high-worth innate and learned human capabilities, such as management skill, salesmanship, machine expertise, system utilization and support skills, or analytical ability that must be developed and managed to produce high-value results
  • Human knowledge capital: The knowledge solutions employed to develop human capabilities and accessed as needed to utilize a performance solution and to produce a result

The human capital management unit is responsible for results that support human capital to keep human personnel ready to produce results, to provide the capabilities required to produce a specific result, and to deliver knowledge needed to develop capabilities and to produce a result. A certain set of results must be produced within the set of human capital management results, to manage human knowledge capital.

The performance responsibility to produce these results resides in a knowledge capital unit or knowledge performance manager, scaled to the needs of the business. Knowledge requirements arise from the need to produce existing or planned results. The knowledge performance manager works with result management to refine the requirements for knowledge solutions. Each particular body of knowledge is one performance solution that may be utilized to produce one or more results. The knowledge solution may help users utilize other performance solutions or help users to produce results. The knowledge solution may be directly related to the result, to the capabilities to be enhanced to produce results in a set, or to the environment or business context in which results are produced. The knowledge capital unit manages the specification, creation or development, deployment, integration, updating, and disposal of knowledge. The knowledge capital unit monitors the utilization of knowledge and works with result management on knowledge performance problems.

Knowledge is delivered, integrated, and utilized as information capital

Human knowledge solutions are delivered specifically to utilize performance solutions effectively and produce high-quality results. Knowledge solutions can be written guides or handbooks, on-line help aids, on-line accessible documents, calculation or analysis aids, etc. Knowledge can be maintained off-line in documents, in a knowledge management system, in interlinked on-line objects and aids, in an internet site, etc. Knowledge solutions must be available, when needed, to develop the human capability to utilize solutions and produce results and be delivered, as needed, to the point of solution utilization to produce results.

Knowledge integration and utilization is managed as information capital that must be delivered to the point required to produce results. Information capital is organized into four categories for operation and development support:

  • Business data capital: The business information that describes the business in the results, performance solutions, transactions, enterprises, etc involved in the business
  • Human knowledge capital: The human information that drives the business in that instilled as a human capability and that delivered to enable results
  • Facility record capital: The facility information that documents the business in the result and performance solution documentation and recorded business activity
  • Management intelligence capital: The management information that directs the business in the external business opportunities and threats and internal information used to make decisions

Knowledge is information needed for human capital to produce results in addition to business data describing the result, facility records documenting the result, and management intelligence directing results. Knowledge may be organized by any main topic, but must be accessible by the particular performance solution identifier or result identifier for which the knowledge is used. Knowledge capital is not just organized by subject and made available, but is delivered as specific solutions to produce specific results.

To the degree possible knowledge or access to knowledge is integrated with business data. Business data is organized and accessed by the result or performance solution identifier. Knowledge required to utilize a solution properly and to produce a high value-quality result should be delivered or accessible with business data access.
