Its Time to Leave the 20th Century Behind: Article in Intellectual Asset Magazine (IAM), Issue 27, January 2008, on using R-pM to organize intellectual capital as part of all enterprise capital to produce specific results through 21st Century Management
Take the Mystery out of Business Change: Business change is a mystery to the 20th century enterprise with “intangible assets”, “unknown costs”, unmanaged value, and “ad-hoc projects”. Result-performance Management (R-pM) manages the results and performance that change, provides an effective project management approach, and enables beneficial business change management consulting services.
Replace Administration with R-pM Capital Management: Most enterprises have no idea about managing capital. They may have an assets register and make some attempt to understand utilization of assets and think of this as managing capital. Many think that managing capital means assigning it to a responsibility center, which actually removes capital from management for the benefit of the enterprise. The problem is eliminated by Result-performance Management (R-pM). R-pM replaces administration with capital management to directly manage defined performance solutions.
Eliminate Change Mismanagement with R-pM: Over the past decade, many new business methods became well recognized, such as business process re-engineering, and enterprise resource planning. However, most enterprises still discovered a fundamental problem. They do not have a strong foundation for business change. Result-performance Management (R-pM) is then established to provide the way to eliminate the mismanagement of change by managing results and performance, and by changing the organization naturally as results change.
Implement the Benefits of Business Change with R-pM: Conventional methods manage change and development through contrived entities rather than business reality. No conventional method can enable the methodical development of the benefit of business change, since enterprises are not structured to plan, manage, and track the benefits. This problem is eliminated by Result-performance Management (R-pM). R-pM provides the answer by structuring enterprise results and performance to enable result-performance development. The benefits of the investment come from result development; the costs of investment come from performance development.
Unre-engineer Business Processes to be Result Value-Quality Chains: Conventional re-engineered processes typically ignore result, quality and value. Implementing solutions became a matter of following methodologies, rather than thinking and using the good parts of the solutions to make beneficial business change. Instead of thinking of business processes, we should be thinking of result chains, which define the results produced across the process. The flow should be determined by the relationship between the results. The process is the performance across the results for separately managed business, human, facility, and management capital. Result-Performance Management (R-pM) is now available to provide the means to do this. We need to unre-engineer and clarify everything through R-pM in a result value-quality chain.
Business Collaboration in a True Value Chain using R-pM: Collaboration involves massive investments in systems, redefined processes, and data reconciliation. Contrived methods are used for data aggregation and reconciliation, transaction costing, information sharing, etc. None of these contrived methods addresses the fundamental problem in understanding precisely where we create value and how we incur costs across a chain. This lack of a fundamental method to define and manage a value chain makes all collaboration risky and difficult. Result-performance Management (R-pM), enables value chains by defining and managing the components of a chain. R-pM creates value chains by defining results as links in the value chain and the relationships between results as the interlocking of links into a chain.
