R-pM. Leave dead-end 20th Century Management Behind

Need For Result and Performance Management

20th century problems can never be solved by 20th century solutions. They must be eliminated by 21st Century Management

Failure to organize and manage the business through results and performance has given rise to unsolvable performance problems. We lay additional structures over the business and write more books, but the problems remain unsolved.

If you are an experienced manager or professional involved in capital development and business change, you have likely encountered some of the common problems discussed in these pages. The following problems provide examples of why we need to organize the business with R-pM for 21st Century Management:

  • Implementing solutions without specific benefit objectives and having difficulty seeing the benefits
  • Redefining your real problems to implement a solution or employ a methodology and losing sight of your real problems
  • Implementing a performance management solution that does not provide a way to manage on-going performance
  • Restructuring an obsolete organization only to be trapped in another organization that will become obsolete
  • Laying structures over the business and managing contrived entities, rather than the business, creating information and business complexity
  • Outsourcing profits, due to problems utilizing outsourced solutions and aligning them with internal processes
  • Capital development and business change based on a rickety foundation, and not part of the business routine

These problems have been around since the beginning of business. The fundamental problems are ingrained in 20th century structures, and will never be solved by new 20th century structures. As you read about the common problems, keep a count of how many your enterprise has encountered.
